Ben Tonsager wins conference shot put
The Saints track team had a very difficult conference meet Tuesday night in Blue Earth. Fairmont, Blue Earth Area, and Waseca all field big teams and that showed Tuesday on the final scoreboard.
St. James had one 1st place finish, that was Ben Tonsager’s 49-foot shot put throw. Tonsager, a junior, has been a consistent presence at the top of the shot put standings all year. Tuesday in Blue Earth he cemented his place as the conference’s mightiest tosser of the 12 pound ball.
Otherwise on Tuesday the Saints got a number of 3rd- and 4th- place finishes, good for four and two points, which is nice but other SCC opponents were gaining 10, 8, and 6 points at a time for their top-three finishes. In the end, that amounted to a 5th place finish for the Saints girls and sixth for the boys.

The boys had a slew of first-, second-, and third-place finishes on their way to a convincing win last Friday in the St. James Invitational. Ten out of the 18 events were won by the St. James boys. The team also had nine 2nd place finishes, five 3rd’s, and five 4th’s to score 165 points, more than twice as much as any other team.
The girls finished a very respectable second place with 97 points. Sleepy Eye took top honors with 144. The Hurley sisters had a nice day for the Saints. Emily finished first in the 400 meter dash and discus throw while Erin took first in the 800 meter run and fourth in pole vault. Michaela Nordby won again on the 100 meter dash and Cheyanne Bowers took first in the 3200 meter run.
