Graduating senior also

qualifies for National wrestling tournament

    Recently the premier Minnesota amateur wrestling magazine, The Guillotine, came out with their 2010 Academic All-State Wrestlers. Included in a select group of 30 first-team members and an even more select group of seven repeat first-team members is St. James’ Ethan Hildebrandt.
    Ethan must have been a clear cut choice for The Guillotine. He is a five-time state entrant and three-time placewinner. With a 42-5 record in this, his senior year, Ethan placed fifth in state at 135 pounds. He ended his high school career with a record of 187-43.
    Ethan’s GPA is 3.95. Honors and achievements include two-time MWCA?All-State Academic, four-time conference champion, and two-year captain. Ethan is also a member of the National Honor Society.
    Next fall Ethan will attend Southwest Minnesota State and major in Education. He will also be wrestling for the Mustangs and Coached by, St. James product, Jesse Nelson. Ethan’s parents are Gene and Julie Hildebrandt.

Greco/Roman Success
    On May 14th, Ethan wrestled deep into the Northern Plains Regional Wrestling Tournament in Waterloo Iowa. In placing 2nd at 145 pounds, Ethan qualified for the USA?National Wrestling Tournament in Fargo, North Dakota this July.
    These tournaments are played out in Greco/Roman style wrestling instead of the traditional folkstyle done in high school competition.

Rnd. 1 -- pinned Jared Degeeter (Indiana) :46
Rnd. 2 -- Tech Fall Colin Lard (Iowa) 6-0, 4-0
Rnd. 3 -- defeated Tim Ostby (MN) 1-1, 15-0
Rnd. 4 -- defeated State Champion AJ Zemke (WI) 1-0, 0-1, 1-0
Rnd. 5 -- lost 0-5, 1-8 to National Champion Triple Crown winner Alex Dieringer (WI)
    Again, Ethan now qualifies for the USA?National Wrestling Tourney at Fargo, ND this July. Congratulations to Ethan who demonstrates the Saints’ wrestling adage that “Summer wrestling makes winter champions!”
