Ida Hunstad, 99, of rural Odin died on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.

    Ida Hunstad, 99, of rural Odin died on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake.
    Funeral services were held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Odin. Burial was at the church cemetery.
    Visitation was held on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake and continued for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
    Ida Sandbo was born on July 30, 1912 to Iver and Maria (Syverson Strand) Sandbo in Martin County, Minnesota. She was a graduate of St. James High School and Mankato Commercial College.
    On January 30, 1935 she married Olaf Peder Hunstad at her parents’ home in Cedar Township. She and Olaf farmed in Odin Township, where they raised their five children. Family was the center of her life. A gifted seamstress, she worked at the fabric shop in St. James.
    Ida loved the challenge of crossword puzzles. Her other hobbies included reading, gardening, and fishing. Traveling with family was a joy, 4th of July weekends at the lake that included pontoon rides to watch the sun set, annual month-long visits to California, graduations of grandchildren and a family excursion to Norway. A faithful member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, she was active in Sunday School, Ladies Aide and Naomi’s Circle. The farmstead was her home until she turned 98 years of age. She passed away receiving comfort care at Good Samaritan Village and is entrusted to the promise of eternal life through her Savior, Jesus Christ. She will be missed so very much by those who loved her so very much.
    Survivors include daughters, Marge (Wayne) Hanson of  Mountain Lake, MN, Delores (Howard) Peterson of Maple Plaine, MN and Karen (John) Juhring, Carmel, CA; son, Russell (Diana) Hunstad of New Prague, MN; beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Irene (Hunstad) Sandbo of St. James, MN and Eunice (Hunstad) Hansen, Odin, MN.
    Ida was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Olaf Hunstad; daughter, Mary (Hunstad) Scott; grandsons, Kevin Hanson and Chad Peterson; sisters, Minnie (Sandbo) Swenstad, Annie (Sandbo) Grev, Carrie Sandbo, Margaret Sando and Mabel Sandbo; brothers, Amund Sandbo, John Sandbo, Henry Sandbo, Carl Sandbo and Olaf Sandbo; brothers/sisters-in-law.
