  • Howard Koyen died on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at ISJ Hospital in Mankato.
    A memorial service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 1:00 p.m.
    Howard H. Koyen age 64 was born October 11, 1947 to Howard and Madelyn (Hilker) Koyen in Metuchen, New Jersey. He grew up in Metuchen, graduating from high school and then attended Waldorf College at Forest City, Iowa.
    Howard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving four years. He attended computer school and then was employed by Hess Oil Co. He resided in New Jersey and then in 2006 moved to St. James.
    Some of Howard’s interests included bowling, the New York Mets baseball and was an enthusiastic historian of the military and had knowledge of many wars including the Revolutionary War, Civil War and World Wars I and II. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends especially with nieces and nephews.
    Howard suffered with muscular dystrophy disease, but that didn’t prevent him from being a great conversationalist.
    Survivors include, brother-in-law, Russell Anderson of St. James, MN; nieces and nephews, Janet and Jon Schuster of Manitowoc, WI, Erik Anderson of Mankato, MN, Susan Anderson of New Ulm, MN; great-niece, Elizabeth Schuster of Manitowoc, WI; aunt, Astrid Hilker of Spokane, WA; other relatives.
    Howard was preceded in death by parents, Howard and Madelyn Koyen; sister, Valerie Anderson.
