St. James High School senior Cheyanne Bowers has signed a national letter of intent to run cross country for the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits.
Cheyanne signed this letter on Feb. 1, 2012, which was the national signing day for many college sports.
SDSU is a member of the Division 1 Summit League conference. The Summit League has ten universities in seven states.
St. James High School Cross Coach Kyle Blomgren said Cheyanne is the first cross country athlete from St. James High School to ever sign with a D-1 college program.
Cheyanne has been running cross country since 7th grade, and made to the Minnesota state high school meet three times.
Coach Blomgren said, “Cheyanne will have an immediate impact at SDSU. Cheyanne is more about making the team first and not herself.”
Coach Bloomgren thinks Cheyanne will have even more success because the distances are even greater in college, and he thinks Cheyanne is stronger over longer distances.
Right now Cheyanne is finishing up the basketball season as a starting guard for the Saints.
This spring Cheyanne will run track for the Saints. She runs the 2 mile, pole vaults, and runs on the 4x800 team.
This fall Cheyanne will be running cross country for the Jackrabbits - how apropos.
