• Wrestlers dominate in conference championship

  •     The Saints wrestlers stormed and stomped their way to the South Central Conference Tournament Championships on Saturday by crowning six individual champions. 


        The Saints racked up 198.5 team points to second place St. Peter with 151. 

        Saints senior Giovanni Alvarado was named the Offensive Wrestler of the Conference. Alvarado shared the award with Ashton Bartlett of St. Peter.

        Saints who were crowned champions were:


    113lbs. Ruben Bermudez

    120lbs. Richy Soto

    145lbs. Giovanni Alvarado

    170lbs. Esteban Zelaya

    182lbs. Devin Wolle

    HWT Victor Torres

        

        St. James wrestlers also collected two second place finishers, three third place finishers, and two fourth place finishers.

        Saints who placed second were Cody Hanson and Isaac Carreon. 

        Third place finishers were Taylor Berg, Kody Curry, and Zach Gleiter. 

        Julio Nino and Adrian Torres picked up fourth place finishes for the Saints. 

        Team scores for the Tournament were:


    St. James 198.5

    St. Peter 151

    Blue Earth Area 148

    Fairmont/MCW 143

    Waseca 134

    New Ulm 77


        The Saints  will host the section 4A state team wrestling championship  on Thursday night and have earned the second seed in the bracket.  Wrestling gets under way at 6 p.m., but the Saints have a first round bye.
