  •     Jeff Whitney has been hired as the new head football coach for St. James High School.
Whitney has been a teacher and a coach at the high school since 2009.
In that period he has been the varsity football defensive coordinator.  He has also been involved in coaching junior high wrestling and baseball coaching at St. James High School.
He is an EBD/LD teacher, a social studies teacher, and a PLATO teacher.
Whitney is a graduate of Southwest State University in Marshall and was the captain of the Southwest State football team in 1993.  He was voted the most valuable defensive player that year.
He is also a graduate of St. James High School, and was a member of the 1989 Class A State Wrestling Team Champions.
While the Saints offense and defensive, football schemes may change with what kind of players he has in any given year, Whitney says, “On offense we’ll try and mix it up a little more with the run, and get a little more ball control offense.”
The new coach hopes to get an additional 10 to 15 more kids out for football next year compared to the number of players participating in the program in previous years.
A new youth football program is something Coach Whitney hopes to develop in the St. James community as early as next year. He said that he would need a lot of volunteers and help to get that kind of program going.
