Wesley Olson, 69, of Madelia died on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at the Madelia Community Hospital in Madelia.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur with Reverend Lowell Asplund officiating. Burial was at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Darfur.
Visitation was held on Friday, February 24, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia.
Wesley Donald Olson was born on February 15, 1943 to Alvin and Thelma (Bottem) Olson in St. James, Minnesota. He and his twin brother Wayne grew up in rural Butterfield and attended Country School District 22 until 1955. They attended Butterfield High School in 1956-1957, He received his GED later.
Wesley worked at Elg’s Feed in Darfur for several years then worked as a corn packer in Fairmont for a couple years. He served in the Army from 1967 to 1969. In 1970 he married Cheryl Breland, they later divorced. He worked for Culligan in Madelia for a short time before going to work at Northstar Concrete in Mankato where he worked for 33 years. He then worked at concrete plants in New Ulm and Mankato before going to work at Michael Foods where he had worked 8 years before his death. He married Sharon Nelson on February 28, 2003.
Wes loved old cars, he would buy them, restore them and once in a while sell them. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Always there to lend a helping hand.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Olson of Madelia, MN; sons, Chad Olson of Madelia, MN and Jeff Olson of Brandon, SD; daughter, Stacy Reed of Madelia, MN; step-sons, Bruce Nelson of Fridley, MN and John Nelson of Tower, MN; five grandchildren; twin brother, Wayne Olson of Sioux Falls, SD; and several cousins.
