Rick Greiner, 59, of Truman died on Monday, March 12, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Truman with Reverend Brian Thorson and Nathan Rusert officiating. Interment will be held at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lewisville with full military honors by the Lewisville American Legion Post 561.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman and will continue for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Ricky Joel Greiner was born on May 21, 1952 to Ray and Doris (Benzel) Greiner in Fairmont, Minnesota. He was baptized on June 8, 1952 and confirmed on May 22, 1966 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lewisville. He attended Truman Public School, graduating in 1970. He attended Southwest State in Marshall. He served in the Army National Guard and was an FFA Star Farmer.
On February 14, 1987 he married Vickie Bower at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Truman. They lived on the family farm in rural Antrim township until moving to Truman in 1998. He farmed with his dad, brother-in-law and friends for many years. He and Vickie owned and operated the Truman Tribune since 1987.
Rick loved anything to do with softball. He coached various youth sports for many years. He enjoyed bowling, co-ed volleyball, watching sports, supporting his children, nieces and nephews and grandchildren in their various school and church activities. His memberships and activities included: THS After Prom Party Committee, THS Academic Honors Committee, THS Athletic Boosters, Truman Baseball/Softball Association, Baseball diamond maintenance, Lewisville ball diamond updates, Truman Days Softball, Lewisville Legion member, Truman Downtown “Spruce Up” Committee. He played on Lewisville Bank Softball, M&M Softball, Rural Horizons Softball, and many others.
Rick was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lewisville and also regularly attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Vickie of Truman, MN; sons and daughter, Brandon and Breanne Greiner, Derrick Greiner, Heather and Todd Earl and Marcus and Alisa Eytcheson; sisters, Joyce (Lowell) Boesch and Judy Bowman; grandchildren, Brendan, Payton and Jordyn Earl and Edwin Eytcheson; nieces and nephews, Brittany (Daniel) Grunig, Logan Boesch, Jared Bowman, Jenna Bowman, Leslie (Aaron) Berg, Aaron Neitzke, Nikki (Neal) Meyer, Jonathon Neitzke and Jennifer Neitzke; sisters-in-law, Cairne Eytcheson and Debbie (Dennis) Neitzke; godparent, Lyle Greiner; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Doris Greiner; sister, Sharon; granddaughter, Ainsley; and aunts and uncles.
