Wayne Olson, 84, of St. James died on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Reverend Ken Bowman officiating. Burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by the St. James Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and continued for one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
Wayne Everett Olson was born on June 26, 1927 to John and Mattie (Peterson) Olson near Ormsby, Minnesota. He grew up in Crookston and St. James where he graduated from high school. He served in the Navy. When he returned home from the service he worked at the bottling company for a short time before going to work for the telephone company where he worked until he retired in 1983.
Wayne was a member of the First Lutheran Church, American Legion and the Rotary Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, watching sports, socializing with family and friends and the “shopping experience.”
Survivors include his nephews, Dave Olson of St. James, MN and Steve and Cindy Olson of Shoreview, MN; niece, Sheryl and Steve Paulson of Minnetonka, MN; grandnieces and grandnephews, Cassandra Fohrman of Rochester, MN, Eric Olson of Fridley, MN, Lauren Paulson of Minnetonka, MN and Lindsay Paulson of Minnetonka, MN; and great-grandniece and great-grandnephew, Adrian Fohrman and Elizabeth Fohrman.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brother, J.A. “Umpy” Olson; and niece, Dianne Ficenko.
