  • The tenth annual Cash for Kids auction will be held Sunday, March 25th at St. James High School Gymnasium.
This is a great charity auction event sponsored by the District 840 Foundation. The funds raised will allow the Foundation to buy educational items for St. James students that the School District’s budget does not cover.
Over the past nine years, the auction has netted an average of about $25,000 a year for the District 840 Foundation.
As she has done in the past, auction organizer Pam Runge has accumulated a large and diverse number of items for the auction.
On Sunday, March 25th, the doors at the high school will open at 11:30 a.m. for viewing and bidding on the silent auction items
At noon the live auction starts for children and classroom items.
The silent auction starts at 1:00 p.m.
The live auction starts at approximately 2:30 p.m. - arrive early as you do not want to miss it.
A link to the full list of the items that will be auctioned can be found on the Plaindealer’s facebook page.
And lots and lots of good deals can be had. In a perfect auction world, Pam would like every gift certificate item to go at full price or more. However, there often are certificates like $100 grocery coupons that go for less than the face amounts. It is the lure of winning one of those great deals that attracts bidders to an auction.
“There’s something in this auction for everyone,” Pam likes to say. Judging from the lengthy list of items, everyone living in District #840 should come to the auction.
Some of the items that might attract some lively bidding include:
An autographed Viking Jersey #28 signed by Adrian Peterson (As a Chicago Bears fan I’ll place an opening bid of 2 bits - and not a penny more).
Several sets of tickets to Minnesota Twins games.
Autographed pictures of Percy Harvin, Dolly Parton, Betty White, Sarah Palin, and others.
Specialty license plates donated by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
A $100 gift certificate donated by Dorn Construction.
Two $50 gift cards donated by St. James Federal Savings and Loan.
$100 gift certificate to the St. James Golf Course.
Tickets to the Old Log Theater.
Gift certificates from Johnson’s Meats and LaSalle Meats.
A family 4 pack of tickets to the Minnesota Zoo.
Two performance tickets to the Guthrie Theater.
An outside wooden playhouse donated by Civil Ag Group and Overson Lumber.
An Olympic Cottage Tent that sleeps ten.
A mystery murder supper for eight.
And this is just a very small fraction of the items that are going to be in this auction.
Page 2 of 2 - There will be an activities room, open swimming, and a dino bouncer for the kids from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost will be $2.00 per child. These activities are not recommended for children under three without parental supervision.
The staff from Pioneer Bank will be doing the important job of clerking for the auction.
