  •     James Shellum, 79, of Truman formerly of St. James, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Truman Senior Assisted Living in Truman.
        Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Odin with Reverend Carla Reierson officiating. Burial will be at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Odin.
        Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 for one hour prior to the services at the church.
        Jim Shellum was born on September 5, 1932 to Milford and Hannah (Larson) Shellum, in St. James, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in St. James. He went to school in St. James. He was enlisted in the Navy, from 1952 until 1960. The Seabees built air strips in several countries including the Philippines, and Spain. After serving in the military, he worked as a heavy machine operator in several construction companies. His last job was driving truck for Tony Downs Foods, before he retired.
        James was very involved in the St. James chapter of AA for 37 years. He enjoyed going to local restaurants, drinking coffee, playing cards and visiting with friends. He loved to play golf and often went down south in the winter to play. His last years were spent in the assisted living at the Truman Senior Living.
        Survivors include his sister, Ilene Tams of Loveland, CO; sister-in law, Leona Shellum of St. James, MN; nieces and nephews, Maureen Cirks of Park Rapids, MN, Jeff Tams of Loveland, CO, Julie Sullivan of Loveland CO, Gregg, (Terri) Tams of Windsor, CO, Paul (Valerie) Tams of Johnstown, CO, Steve (Debbie) Shellum of Sartell, MN, Dennis Shellum of Mankato, MN and Jeanette (Dan) Sturm of St. James, MN.
        James was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Hannah Shellum and his brother, Marland Shellum.
