Bernice Marie (Quade) Hultgren, 97, of St. James, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Autumn Grace Senior Services in Mankato. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James, with Rev. Kathleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, St. James. Bernice was born Dec. 10, 1914, in Fairmont, the daughter of Louis and Pauline (Koeder) Quade. She was Baptized and Confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1932. On April 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to Arnold Hultgren. Bernice was very active at Augustana Lutheran Church. She worked in the school cafeteria for many years, also at Ulebergs store and on the greeting cards route with Arnold. Bernice loved to read. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Bernice is survived by her children, Mary and Tom Lind of St. Louis Park, John and Glenys Hultgren of Madison Lake and Joel and Laurel Hultgren of St. James; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; parents; and brother, Marland Quade.
