  •     Coach Scott Allen called it a great warm day for a track meet and the Saints tracksters responded Tuesday night with multiple solid performances against stiff competition from Fairmont and Worthington.
Fairmont won both the boys and girls side of the track meet. The Saints girls won eight events and placed second in seven events. This made the team score on the girls side as Fairmont 91, St. James 61, and Worthington 29. Allen said the Fairmont team doubled pointed in every event and that’s why they were able to beat the Saints.
There were some great performances by the Saints girls. Allen said Devon Flohrs had ‘a monster day’ winning both the long and the triple jump, finishing second in the 200 meter dash and being part of the 4x100 relay team that just got nipped at the end of the race.
The Hurley twin sisters preformed well for the Saints. Emily won both the discus and the shot put. Erin won the 400 meter race and helped the team’s efforts by placing in the 200 meter race and running in the 4x400 relay race.
Michaela Nordby won the 100 meter dash and Maggie Ramirez won the 100 meter hurdles for the girls team. Cheyanne Bowers won the 1600 meter run.
The boys tracksters came in third on their side of the competition.
The strength of the boys team in the first month of the season has been the middle and long distance races.
The boys team of Carlos Marquez, Isaac Carreon, Zach Christenson and Zuriel Chacon won the 4x800 meter relay race.
Chacon won the 800 meter run and Johnathan Surber won the 3200 meter run and placed second in the 1600 meter run.
The track team has a multi team meet on May 1 against MLBO, Cedar Mountain-Comfrey, Madelia, Mountain Lake Christian, Redwood Valley, Sleepy Eye and Truman at the St. James High School track.
