Donovan H. Kading, 76, of Owatonna, died Thursday, May 31, 2012 at his home. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery in St. James, with the Reverend Lowell Knauss officiating. Honors will be provided by the St. James Honor Guard. The family suggest memorial contributions be sent to the VFW Post 3273 Owatonna in memory of Don. Don was born January 11, 1936 in St. James, the son of Arnold and Ruby (Rhoads) Kading. There he was raised and attended school graduating from St. James High School in 1954. He enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1958 and served until June 1962. He served on the USS Lake Champlain, USS Lexington and the USS Kitty Hawk. Donovan received rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. During that time he participated in the Bay of Pigs Invasion. After receiving his honorable discharge, he returned to St. James where he began working construction along with his brother, Jim. He moved to Owatonna and worked for Riteway in Lakeville, Midwest Foods and HyVee in Owatonna and later as a maintenance engineer in Northfield. He was an exceptional man who had many talents. He was an artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. He also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes. Don was a member of the American Legion Post 77 and VFW Post 3723 in Owatonna.
Donovan is survived by his brothe,r James Kading of Minneapolis; sister, Peggy Norman of Truman; and a long time friend, Bob King of Hollandale.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin brother Douglas.
