Marcia Batzlaff, age 87, of St. James died on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Funeral services will be 10:30AM, Friday, June 15, 2012 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Martin Lopahs officiating. Burial will be at 2:00PM at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Sanborn. Visitation will be 4pm to 8pm on Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and one hour before services at the church. Marcia Nanette Goehring Batzlaff was born March 5, 1925 to Clarence and Suzanna (Illchen) Goehring at Hazelton, N.D. Marcia grew up on the farm with four siblings and was an active 4-H member. Marcia graduated from Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm with a teaching degree in 1946. She taught in Wisconsin before accepting a call to Zion Lutheran school in Sanborn. She married Gilbert Batzlaff on February 4, 1949 in Marshall. They farmed near Sanborn and later near Comfrey before moving to St. James in 1980. They were blessed with 10 children during their 44 years of marriage; Gilbert passed away in 1993. Marcia was active in her church; Ladies Aid, Sunday school teacher, Quilting, Banner making, and Altar guild. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing and handiwork, and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to have her grandchildren visit and hear details of their adventures. She loved to laugh.
Marcia is survived by her children: Richard (Elaine) Batzlaff, Plymouth, Virginia (Jeff) Peterson, Indianapolis Ind., Warren Batzlaff, Crystal, Gordon Batzlaff, New Ulm, Rodney (Renee) Batzlaff, Brooklyn Park, Janet (John) Friedrichsen, Rock Rapids Iowa, Emily (Brett) Overson, St James, Brad (Amy) Batzlaff, Fairmont; siblings: Artcy Fuhrmann, Fond du Lac Wisc., Anita Scholz, Wimbledon N.D., Gerald Goehring, Pettibone N.D., Robert Goehring, Carrington N.D., 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grand children.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Gilbert, infant daughter Susan, son Curtis, and great grandson Broden Peterson
