Eleanora Minnie Clara Dougherty, 82, of Tower, formerly of the St. James area and Ely, died Friday, June 15, after a courageous battle with cancer. There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, June 30, at 11 a.m. at the Eagles Club in St. James.
Eleanora was born June 17, 1929 to Carl and Matilda (Rathke) Mausling in South Grove. On July 25, 1952, she married the love of her life, Edward A. Dougherty. The couple made their home in southern Minnesota before moving to Ely in the mid-1960’s. There, they raised their five children and enjoyed life with a large group of family and friends until the mid-1980’s, when they moved to Brooklyn Center to manage an apartment complex. Sadly, Ed passed away shortly after. Eleanora moved to various places near her children between the St. James area and the cities a few times before settling at Golden Horizons in Tower, in 2008. There she enjoyed meeting new friends, her time outside, and most of all -- no matter where she lived – spending time with her family.
Eleanora is survived by her sons, Gary Dougherty, Dale (Nancy) Dougherty, and Scott Dougherty, all of Soudan; daughter, Wanda Grebenc of Madelia. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Angie Dougherty, John Dougherty, both of Appleton, Wisc.; Kathy (Aaron) Undeland and their children, Emily, Jakob, and Alexa, of Aurora; Megan Dougherty of Richfield; Rob Grebenc and his children Hannah and Alicia of Madelia; Kenny Folstad (Julie Johnson) and his children Kendra and Kenneth of Soudan; Keith Folstad of Tower; Les Tierney and his children Natasha, Devyn, Taylor, Collin, and Noah of New Ulm; Sheila (Keith) Kilmer and their children Jennifer and Justin of Madelia; Lance (Annie) Dougherty and their child Kayla of Tower; their mother Doris Dougherty also of Madelia; sister, Esther Gardner of St James; brother Vic (Elaine) Mausling of Mountain Lake; and the many, many sons, daughters, grandchildren that she “adopted” over the years.
Eleanora was greeted in heaven by those who proceeded her in death; husband, Ed; daughter, Dawn; daughter-in-law Bonnie; “son-in-law” Frances “Stub”; grandson, Brandon; sisters, Marie, Tillie, and Agatha “Gardie”; and brothers, Carl and Walt.
