The Watonwan County Commissioners held their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 19.
All Commissioners, including Raymond Gustafson, Bill Berg, Scott Sanders, John Baerg and Mark Rentz were present.
As usual, also in attendance was County Auditor Donald Kuhlman; absent, however, was Administrative Assistant Lisa Schumann.
After the approval of minutes and bills, the first order of business was the approval of the Board to adopt procedures for tax exempt bonds.
Following that, Environmental Services Officer Bruce Johnson stood before the board, requesting a Conditional Use Permit for Knife River Corporation to utilize County Road # 9 (310th Street) for 10-13 days in Madelia.
The purpose of this Conditional Use Permit would be to place a temporary asphalt plant, stockpile materials and haul materials for various construction projects. The Board approved.
Next, Law Clerk Peter williams requested that the price of Law Library fees be raised from $5 to $10. The Board approved of this.
After a short break, the meeting commenced with Public Works Director Roger Risser going over his agenda.
The first item on his agenda was approval of Current?Bills/Accounts Payable, which the Board approved.
Up next, Risser presented the Board with the final contract for Mathiowetz Construction Co., Inc. low bid of $117,355 for the replacement of the Town Bridge on 690th Ave. over the North Branch of St. James Creek. The Board Approved of the final contract.
For the next several minutes, Risser discussed the status of various construction projects, one of them being the decision to not relocate Madelia’s Historic Warren Tress Bridge, for reasons being that doing so might upset the Madelia community as well as being a very expensive endeavor.
After Risser concluded with his agenda, IT Director Greg Walsh addressed the Board about the purchase of a new firewall system from Cisco Systems, Inc.
According to Walsh, the current firewall is outdated and needs to be replaced with something more compatible with their current equipment.
The Board approved the purchase of the new firewall from a company called Marco for $8,332.93.
The Board also approved a Training Request from Watonwan County Transit Director Marjorie R. ?Smith to travel to Bemidji for the 2012 MN Bus Rodeo, a training competition.
After going over and approving financial reports, various credit card payments, the May Disbursements Journal and a few items dealing personnel, the meeting went into closed session.
