The St. James City Council held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, July 17.
The meeting began on a positive note, as Bob and Anne Sorensen were recognized for, as Mayor Sturm put it, “true generosity, straight from the heart.”
The couple were the recipients of the 2012 Watonwan County Outstanding Senior Citizen Recognition Award for a lifetime-worth of contributions to St. James and Watonwan County.
Next, a plumbing license was approved for Lehtola Plumbing and Heating, Inc. located in Big Lake, MN.
For Old Business, St. James Firefighter’s Relief Association President Caleb Curry and Fire Chief Jason Monnens stood, once again, before the City Council, requesting an annual retirement rate increase. However, instead of their original $75 per year request, the cost was lowered to $25 per year for 2013.
The $25.00 increase would be an in-city contribution and would still only impact the general fund budget by about $22,053 for 2013...
