  • Margaret Loraine (Johnson) Olson age 100 of Buffalo formerly of St James, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Lake Ridge Care Center.

  • Margaret Loraine (Johnson) Olson age 100 of Buffalo formerly of St James, passed away on Friday, August 31, 2012 at Lake Ridge Care Center. The service for Margaret will be held Friday September 28, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. Zion Lutheran Church, Buffalo, Minnesota., the Reverend Ted Vanderpan Officiating. Burial will follow Monday October 1, 2012 -at 11:00 A.M. New Hope Cemetery, St. James, Minnesota.
    Margaret was born on October 9, 1911 in St. James, Minnesota. Her parents were Edward G. and Ida Nelson. She attended St. James schools and after graduating from high school attended Mankato State Teachers College. Her first teaching position was in the elementary school in Becker, Minnesota, where she met and married Gordon Johnson a farmer and school bus driver. They had three children Roger, Douglas and Marilyn while living in Becker area. When the children were still small they moved to the Nelson family farm near Ormbsy, Minnesota. Another son, Loren, was born there. After farming and raising their family, Margaret and Gordon, many years later retired in St. James, Minnesota. They took part in a few group bus tours and visited family but mainly stayed close to home. Margaret was active in church, garden club, senior center, crafts, furniture refinishing, and in being very artistic she painted many beautiful oil paintings. After celebrating 51 years together, Gordon passed away. Margaret later married Ivar Olson, they had 25 happy years together and while living at Brandt Ridge assisted living at age 101 Ivar passed away, shortly after that Margaret moved to Lake Ridge Center in Buffalo, Minnesota to be closer to family. Margaret will be remembered as someone who loved to visit with people, took great pride in her family, always kept a beautiful home and made sure she always looked presentable in appearance.
    Margaret is survived by son Roger (Delores) Johnson from Buffalo; daughter Marilyn (Robert) Mayer of Roseville; daughter-in-law Bonnie Johnson from St. Anthony; step-son Paul (Kathy) Olson or Arizona; sister-in-law Olivia Nelson of Lake Crystal. Grandchildren Craig, Kelly, Julie (Jack), Thomas (Wendy), Bryan (Jan), Greg (Kat), Andrew (Mary), Kristina (Rob), Eric (Lisa), Ross (Lucia); step-grandchildren John and Kristin; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by parents, brother Chester, sister Eleanor Hunt, husband Gordon, husband Ivar, son Douglas, son Loren, step-son Howard Olson.
    Margaret will be remembered as someone who loved to visit with people, took great pride in her family, always kept a beautiful home and made sure she always looked presentable in appearance.
