Dorothy Francis Sodeman, 88 of St. James died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Funeral service will be at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church-St. James at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 with Rev Martin Lopahs officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Dorothy was born on August 23, 1924 in Watonwan County, the daughter of Arthur and Alvina (Engelbrecht) Luther. She graduated from St. James High school and later attended business school in Mankato and worked in Minneapolis. Dorothy married Norman Sodeman on May 29, 1949. They farmed in South Branch Township until retirement. Dorothy was active in her church, delivered Meals on Wheels, was a volunteer reader at school, member of the VFW, extension groups and garden club and was an active 4-H promoter. Her hobbies included bowling, cards, sewing, dancing, golf, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, smile, Christian faith, and her love of the Minnesota Gophers, Twins and Vikings.
Dorothy is survived by her son Steven (Sue) Sodeman of St. James, daughters, Linda (Paul) Romine of Columbia, Mo, Debra (Scott) Fogal of Mankato, Brenda (Bryce) Olson of Eagle Lake; grandchildren Nicole (Ryan) Thilges, Jacob (Jodi) Olson, Christopher Sodeman, Mitchell (Tracey) Fogal, Stacy (Brett) Olson, Jeffrey (Becca) Romine, John (Laura) Romine, Thomas Olson, Laura Fogal; six great grandchildren; sister Ruth Jacobs; sister in law Dorothy Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, brother Wilbur, sisters Laura, Doris and Mildred and granddaughter Emily Romine.
