Elnora Lien, age 82 of Comfrey, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, at Season’s Hospice in Rochester. A Celebration of Life was held Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Albion Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Chaplain Lyla Klee officiated the service. Elnora Mary Hotchkiss was born August 24, 1930, in Alexandria, Ind., the daughter of Roy and Mary Magdalene (Loeschen) Hotchkiss. She moved to St. James at the age of six and graduated from St. James High School in 1948. Elnora was united in marriage to Elmo Lien on September 18, 1949. The couple farmed northwest of St. James on the family farm and lived there until 2008 when they moved to Comfrey. Elnora worked at Coast-to-Coast in St. James for a year, then at Divine Providence in Sleepy Eye, Pleasant View in St. James, then the St. James Hospital for 25 years. She finally worked at the Comfrey Hospital before retirement. Elnora was a member of Albion Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School, Albion Ladies ELCW, and the Comfrey American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking, fishing and spending time at their lake home on Cedar Island Lake in Richmond.
She is survived by husband Elmo; daughters, Patricia and husband David Hesse of Comfrey, and Dr. Deborah Lien and husband Dale Norell of Rochester; 5 grandchildren: Tammy Hesse of Comfrey, Troy (Danielle) Hesse of Farmington, Todd (Sara) Hesse of Victoria, Aaron Norell of Champlin, and Ana Norell of Omaha, Neb.; 4 great-granddaughters Makenzie, Brenna, Aevaleen and Liahna; and nieces Virgene Stauffer and Renelle Biggar.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Peterson and brother-in-law Harold Peterson.
