According to Coach Gene Hildebrandt, 14 boys played seventh grade football this season.
When there’s 14 kids out for 11 man football, the students get a lot of action and get to play on both sides of the ball, which is a good thing when the focus at this age should be getting playing time so kids can develop some skills.
Boys who played for the SJA Saints this past fall were Sawyer Carr, Austin Durheim, Javier Esqueda, Wilbert Esqueda, Sam Henderson, Brandon Johnson and Garrett Larson.
Other players participating in Saints football were Arnulfo Morales-Banda, Joe Reim, Anthony Rodriquez, Noah Sandmeyer, Riley Sandmeyer, Cole Sawatzky and Ricardo Vite.
The young Saints played in or scrimmaged against the Maple River Jamboree, LCWM, the Jackson Jamboree, Blue Earth Area, Windom and Maple River.
Assessing the players’ performances this past season, Coach Hildebrandt said, “At the seventh grade level, all the kids have promising futures if they stay out for football.”
