Verne A. Thulien, age 95 of St James died Friday, November 9, 2012 at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services are 10:30 AM Monday, Nov.12, 2012 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Rev. Katleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. Visitation is Sunday, 3 to 6 p.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home in St. James and resumes at the church, one hour before the funeral. Verne Ansgar was born on December 27, 1916 in St. James to Axel and Anna (Bergen) Thulien. He served as a U.S. Army Paratrooper during WWII. On October 23, 1965 Vern married Edna Selene Rasmussen in Faith Lutheran Church of Madelia. Verne worked as a machinist for Davis Machine Shop and the MIC Plant. He retired from Tony Downs. He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post St James. He loved puttering in the garage, working with wood, and he was fond of animals. Verne and his Edna traveled extensively in the U.S.
Verne Thulien is survived by his wife, Edna, St James; siblings, Grace Fast, Kimball, Doris Wiens, Windom, Robert and Dorothy Thulien, Sleepy Eye and Darleene and Duane Harris, Courtland; siblings-in-law: Gordon and Janette Rasmussen, Madelia, Lorraine Thulien, and Gloria Thulien, both of St James; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Viola Jensen, Charles Thulien, Alden Thulien, Annette Thompson, LeRoy Thulien and Richard Thulien.
