The new digital projector has finally been installed and the Save the Princess Committee is continuing to raise money in their effort to refurbish the Princess Theater in downtown St. James.
About $90,000 has been raised so far, much of it invested in the digital projector which now sits in the projection booth at the theater. The next goal of the committee is to fix the marquee outside the theater.
“Many of the neon letters need to be redone, it needs to be painted – we’ve scheduled the painting but it probably won’t be able to be done until this spring,” said Save the Princess Committee member Linda Buller.
Buller also hopes to get new carpet put into the theater. The carpet presently underfoot in the Princess is more than thirty years old and beyond hope of scrubbing out the stains that have accumulated over the years.
There are also plans to receive local ads for the theater created by the children of St. James. An ad booth, which sits next to the digital projector, will hold those ads and is currently being painted by Buller.
Over the concession area in the Princess Theater are some paintings from local artists. They cover only a portion of the wall space but the Save the Princess Committee is hoping to receive more donations to hang in the blank spaces on the walls.
Local businesses and community members continue to support the Princess Theater restoration and more events are planned for the future to raise funds.
