Good Samaritan Society of St. James - Pleasant View is celebrating its 50 year golden anniversary with golden opportunities for the city of St. James.
The community can get involved and make the fiftieth anniversary special for those residents at Pleasant View by participating in a few different ways.
“To celebrate our 50 years, we would like to have 50 weeks with a short community music program,” says Activity Director Marlys Boeve.
The community music program will feature solo musicians or small groups who will provide one short (15 minute) program sometime each week at about 3:30 p.m., beginning Jan. 1, 2013.
Boeve also has plans to provide animal visits to the residents at Pleasant View and is looking for volunteers to bring in their pets or small animals for about half an hour in the morning.
“Sign up sheets for 50 weeks of music and 50 pet/animal visits are being posted at the Activity Office at Pleasant View,” says Boeve.
There will also be a sign up sheet on display at the annual Pleasant View Fall Bazaar this Friday, Nov. 16 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
If you don’t have time to bring in a pet or you can’t perform music for an audience, there is still another opportunity for you to help celebrate Pleasant View’s golden anniversary.
Pleasant View has set a goal to raise the funds to obtain 50 new flat screen TV’s for 50 rooms.
Currently, when a resident moves into Pleasant View, families need to provide a TV for the room.
“We would like to eliminate that physical burden for the family members and residents,” says Tim Flaata, Director of Maintenance.
Anyone who wants to sponsor the purchase of a new flat screen TV which will be mounted in a residents room can make a donation of $500, which will pay for the wiring, TV, mounting bracket and installation. You will also get your name or the name of your organization engraved into a brass plate on the TV set.
Arrangements to sponsor the purchase of a new flat screen TV can be made by calling Marlys at 507-375-6104 or by visiting Judy Jones at the Pleasant View business office.
“Over the past 50 years and the 50 years to come, many people have, or will have, some connection to the services provided by Good Samaritan Society – St. James,” says Administrator Tim Swoboda. “We hope many are inspired to be a part of this golden opportunity.”
Be sure to mark your calendars for the 50 year anniversary celebration to be held Sunday June 1, 2013. More details will follow regarding refreshments and a 1 p.m. program that will be held that day.
