John Henry "Johnny" Knaack, born August 7, 1942 in St. James, passed away early Monday morning, November 12, 2012 from cancer, likely related to the effects of Agent Orange. A graveside military service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m., at the Wellington Highland Cemetery with a reception immediately following at Zion Lutheran Church, 8322 Second Street. Johnny married Ruth Helen Lunz, also from St. James, on December 18, 1962. They had one son. At the age of seventeen, Johnny enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. During his 21 year career as a proud Marine, he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After retiring from the service, and settling in Wellington, Colo., Johnny worked in the agricultural field for many years and was a highly dedicated and valued member of Zion Lutheran Church, from where he will be greatly missed.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, John; daughter-in-law, Linda; and two grandchildren, Sara "Bug", and John William "Monkey", who were his greatest joys.
Johnny was proceeded in death by his parents Fred and Josephine Knaack, and a brother, Albert Eugene Knaack.
