  • Last weekend, 5,000 cars traveled through Sibley Park in Mankato to see the more than 1 million lights that are on display in all sorts of formations. Some displays  include choreography and animation, others have Santa with live reindeer. There are also displays  set up for nonprofit groups and a tribute to the troops.
The light display in Sibley Park has been in the planning stages for about two years by the Kiwanis club. With the help of donations from the Mankato Area Foundation and CHS they were able to make this dream a reality. The group hopes to make this an annual tradition in Mankato.
Other than being a fun event for the whole family, the light display raises money and food for local charities and food shelves. On Sunday, Dec. 2, The Light Show at Sibley Park will be collecting food to be distributed to the Watonwan County Food Shelf.
Throughout the opening weekend about 2,300 pounds of food was collected and distributed to  other area food shelves.
The lights will be open for viewing from 5-9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2.
