Sylvia Deloris Derksen, Age 79, went to be with her Lord Jesus on Sunday November 25, 2012 from her home in Dandridge, Tenn. Sylvia was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, of Hot Springs, Ark. Services were held November 30 at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery North Little Rock.
She was born July 18, 1933 in St. James, to Sidney and Pearl Harriet Blackstad. After graduating from St. James High School she married the love of her life Roger A. Derksen on January 17, 1952. Upon his discharge from the Navy they returned to Minnesota where she worked for Lutheran Brotherhood while he graduated from the University of MN. In 1961 they began a family and she was a devoted mother who volunteered for many years at school, church, and teaching Vacation Bible School. She loved working at Midwest Challenge which began her pursuit of a Doctorate Of Analytical Christian Counseling from American Christian College and Seminary. She had a love for poetry and wrote many beautiful inspiring poems.
Survivors include daughters, Stephanie (Steven) Balgaard, Paulette (Joseph) St. Clair; son Scott (Becky) Derksen; grandchildren Nicholas, David, Benjamin and Caleb Balgaard, Amanda (Craig) Keller, Cheri (Brian) Parker, David Derksen; step grandchildren, three great grandchildren; sister Deanna (Willard) Anderson; and a number of nieces, nephews cherished friends and loved ones.
Preceding her in death was her husband of 56 years; parents; brother Floyd; brother-in-law, Doug; an infant grandson and a granddaughter.
