Florence M. Rankin, 92, of Madelia, died on Monday, Dec. 03, 2012, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday Dec. 13, 2012 at Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia and will continue one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday Dec. 14, 2012 at the Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia with Pastor Mary Dodgson officiating. Burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Florence Marcella Rankin, daughter of Lloyd and Mildred (Johnson) Biisser was born on January 2, 1920 in Madelia. Florence grew up in Madelia, but lived with her grandmother in Mankato while attending first and second grade. She then returned to Madelia to attend Madelia Public School. She met Dallas Rankin from South Dakota who worked around the Madelia area as a hired hand. They were married on August 23, 1937. Florence and Dallas were married for over 71 years when he passed away in February 2008. They lived the majority of their married life in the Madelia area, except for 7 years, they spent in Woonsocket S.D. In 2006 they moved to St. James to be near their daughters.
Florence was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia, and was very proud of being the oldest, baptized, confirmed member of her church. She enjoyed sewing mission quilts, dancing, cards, and her family. She never missed a family event, and loved eating out with her family every chance she got.
She is survived by her children, Marcia (LowWell) Hurley, Larry (Mary) Rankin, Darrel (Elizabeth) Rankin, Linda (ChiWon) Chang and Susan (Donald) Craig. She was proud of her 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Donna Fisk; sister-in-law, Marie Rankin and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dallas, infant son, three sisters Lucille, Llona, and Betty; grandson David; and granddaughter Heidi.
