JCC wins over SJA
Jackson County Central brought a powerhouse gymnastics team to the St. James Armory Tuesday night and came away with a win over St. James Area by a team score of 136.575 to 93.350.
Erin Hurly led the Saints in scoring with a 31.700 in the all around, which was good enough for fourth place behind three JCC gymnasts.
Erin had scores of 8.550 on the vault, 7.700 on the uneven bars, 7.300 on the balance beam and 8.150 on the floor exercise.
The Saints made a strong showing on the vault. Besides Hurley, Saints who scored over seven on the vault were Glenda Hector with 7.750, Kelli Nessler with 7.550 and Gabrielle Nett with a score of 7.400.
In no other event did a Saint gymnast score a seven or higher.
Windom Area tumbles past the Saints
The SJA Saints held their season opener gymnastic meet against Windom Area last Thursday at the National Guard Armory in St. James.
The Saints lost to Windom Area by a team score of 126.025 for Windom Area to 93.300 for SJA.
St. James Area is a young team. Windom had two seniors and three juniors compete in the four events. The Saints Erin Hurley was the only senior who competed in all four events.
Sophomore Glenda Hector was the only other Saint who competed in all four events.
St. James Area had a senior, two freshmen and an eighth grade split the competition in the three gymnasts positions that were use in tabulating the Saints score.
Hurley had a strong meet. Her highest score was in the vault.
Erin had an 8.45, which was a close tie for third in that event. The top two Windom Area gymnasts scored 8.700 and 8.500.
She also finished a close third in the floor exercise with a strong performance and an 8.375 score. The top two Windom gymnasts finished less than two tenths of a point ahead of her.
Her score on the uneven bar was 7.525 and had a 6.850 on the balance beam. She was the top scorer for the Saints in all events.
The all around score for Erin was 31.200, which was good for third place in the all around. Miki Bolin of Windom Area won the event with a score of 32.775 and Hannah Kloss was second with a score of 32.475.
Hector scored a 7.9 in the vault and had an all around score of 22.800 for the Saints. Eighth grader Gabrielle Nett scored a 7.450 on the vault. She was the only other Saint to score above a seven in an event.
