Verle V. Olson, age 83 of Northfield, formerly of Ormsby died on Monday, Dec. 10 2012 at Norfield Hospital, Northfield, Minn. A Celebration of Life Service was held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Trimont, Minnesota. The Rev. Mark Anderson officiated and burial was in the Long Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural St. James. Full military honors were provided by Foster-Bernhardt American Legion Post #373 of Trimont and Donald V. Larson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9607 of Butterfield. The Kramer Family Funeral Home in Trimont was in charge of the arrangements. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.kramerfuneralhome.com.
Verle Val Jene Olson, the son of Marvin and Ethel (Romsdahl) Olson was born at home October 18, 1929 in Long Lake Township rural Ormsby, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Long Lake Lutheran Church in Long Lake Township rural St. James. Verle received his education in the Ormsby School District 56-120 and the School of Agriculture University of Minnesota, St. Paul, graduating in 1948. He entered the U.S. Army in May 1951, and proudly served his country overseas in Korea until he was honorably discharged on February 1953. He was on inactive reserve until 1958. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. Verle was united in marriage to Marilyn Salzman at Trinity Lutheran Church, Trimont, Minnesota on June 25, 1955. They made their home in Ormsby. Verle farmed from 1954 to 1978 in Martin County, Galena township and started a trucking business hauling livestock and grain from 1963 thru 1974, while also managing the Co-op shipping Association. He continued working as a truck driver until 1991. Verle servied as a trustee on the Church Board and also the City Counsel of Ormsby. He loved sports, played softball and also enjoyed bowling. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Those who shared in the love of Verle’s life was his wife, Marilyn Olson of 57 years, Ormsby; son, Brian Olson and wife Carole of Circle Pines; daughters, Brenda Norby and husband Steve of Park Rapids, Linda Dols and husband Dan of Northfield; 11 grandchildren, Ashley and Brian Jamros, Tim Olson, Danielle Norby, Alicia Norby, Erik Norby, Megan Norby, Lealan Norby, Kerrie and Tyler Lantz, Derek Dols and Alian, Dayna Dols and Anna Dols; one great-grandchild, Kaya Dols; brother, Winfield and Meta Olson of Sun Valley, Calif.; sister, Muriel Hagen of Orsmby, Irene and Orville Gosekson of Albert Lea, Ethel and Vernon (Chris) of Jackson; sisters-in law, Margaret (Margie) Olson and LaVon Olson both of Ormsby; brother-in-law, Steve Salzman of Trimont, and sister-in –law, Phyllis Salzman of Glendale, Calif. and Evelyn Salzman of Cannon Falls; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Verle was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Sylvan Olson and Eldon Olson; and a sister, Ruth (Dolly) Mueller; and brother-in-law, Tom Mueller and other relatives.
