  • Hispanic parishioners of the St. James Catholic Church had their Lady of Guadalupe celebration on Dec. 12. Many in downtown St. James were surprised to see a parade make its way through the streets from the downtown park to Jake's Pizza corner and finally working its way to the church.
The Lady of Guadalupe celebration is a tradition in Mexico and is a celebration of the virgin Mary. The date is chosen specifically to coincide with Mary’s birth date.
For the St. James community, it is a chance for Hispanic residents to connect with the traditions of their past. But, the event isn’t just for those with Hispanic heritage. Many members of the community also enjoyed the events that took place last Wednesday, celebrating along with the group as they paraded through town.
