Walking can make a person healthier, skinnier and happier. On Dec. 12, walking made a few Christmases a little warmer.
This was because Anytime Fitness was able to raise $460 for Grandma’s Attic, an organization that raises money and gifts for donations – and during the holiday season, those donations are presents for children.
Kristin Whitney and Beth Henderson walked for 12 hours during the day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. They logged 38.27 miles and burned more than 5,000 calories.
“I’m just a little sore behind the knees,” said Beth. “I feel really good, it’s kind of like a runners high.”
Beth and Kristin had so much fun during their 12 hour walkathon they are planning on doing another event in June. This time they might take the challenge a little further and continue their walk for a full 24 hours.
“We had an awesome day doing this,” said Beth. “We’re really pleased with the turnout, money raised and member participation.”
Door prizes were also given following the event. Erika Castro took home the grand prize for guessing closest to the total miles walked at 35 miles. She won a Princess Theater and Anytime Fitness package.
There were six other winners who all took home theater passes. They were Jaren Lokre, Susan Mohe, Jody Anderson, Chris Pitcher, Angie Holmen and Jane Kuhlman.
Nine members of the community also took advantage of the sale that took place throughout the day and became members at Anytime Fitness.
