  • The small town of Butterfield had a big turnout for the high school band and choir concert Monday, Dec. 17.
The concert began with the fifth and sixth grade bands playing music out of their lesson books. From there, the junior high choirs took the stage and performed carols while Dr. Suess’ grinch stole their Christmas hats and decorations.
There were solos performed throughout the concert by individuals of the Butterfield-Odin  School choir. Two students performed a duet of Justin Beiber’s “Mistletoe,” a song released just one year ago.
Switching from choral music to instrumental, the band took the stage and performed a few full-length songs including John Rutter’s “Carol of the Nativity.”
Many members of the high school band are also members of the choir, so there was a short intermission following the band’s performance while the choir prepared to take the stage. They then performed a few traditional Christmas songs before closing out the concert with a performance of Battistelli, Ian Eskelin and Tony Wood’s “Christmas Is.”
There was a short silence following the completion of the concert in recognition of the Sandy Hook school shooting families and victims. After the concert refreshments were provided at the Butterfield-Odin School cafeteria.
