Two newly elected commissioners were added to the Watonwan County board Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 8:30 a.m. Replacing long-time Commissioners John Baerg and Bill Berg were Kathleen Svalland and Dave Holmgren.
The two new commissioners have been attending meetings since the summer and reported feeling ready and prepared to take the oath of office.
Commissioner Ray Gustafson was also sworn in at the early ceremony, having won his election bid in November. Gustafson was a sitting commissioner on the Watonwan County Board and is also the representative of several committees for the board.
During the regularly scheduled Watonwan County Board meeting which followed the swearing in ceremony, Scott Sanders was named the chairman of the board and Mark Rentz was named vice-chair by a unanimous vote.
County commissioners in Watonwan serve four year terms. During the time they are in office, commissioners make decisions on personnel, the yearly tax levy and other county issues that arise.
