  •     The SJA Saints girls basketball team was on the road at St. Peter last Thursday and the SJA girls fell to the host Saints 70-45.
SJA fell behind early in the game and trailed at the half 35-17.
St. Peter had a size advantage and SJA Head Coach Adam Schroeder said, “St. Peter's size hurt us. Even though we out rebounded St. Peter,  the difference was they were able to capitalize off their offensive rebounds.
“Their full court pressure slowed us down a bit as well.” The young ball handlers of the Saints have had a tough time adjusting to the press over the course of this basketball season.
St. Peter applied a three-quarter court defense with two players pressing on the top and three defenders guarding near the basket.
This is likely the last time SJA sees St. Peter’s senior Tailor Raymond. She has been a prolific scorer against St. James and last week she tossed in 26 points.
As is becoming common this season, freshman Julia Beckius led St. James Area in scoring with 19 points. She was the only player in double figures. Emily Hurley had eight points and Hurley led SJA in rebounding with a total of eight.
