  •     After six matches the previous week, the Saints wrestling team kicked back and only had one match last week. The team made the most of it when they scored a decisive 48-12 win over Fairmont/MCW.
Wrestling away from the friendly confines of the St. James Gym, the boys were able to put away the host Fairmont/MCW team in short order.
SJA got out to an early 10-0 lead on a major decision by Angel Zamarripa at 106 and a pin by Cody Hanson at 113 lbs. Hanson got his pin in 1:12.
Fairmont/MCW’s Trevor Schultz pinned the Saints Jose Garcia at 120 lbs. to cut the lead 10-6.
The Saints picked up the next four matches - all of them by decisions.
Three point decisions by Joe Dominquez at 126, Isaac Carreon at 132, Mark Alvarado at 138 and Kody Curry at 145 pushed the Saints out to a 22-6 lead.
Zack Gleiter lost by a 2-1 score to Joe Webber of Fairmont/MCW  at 152 lbs. It was an upset according to Head Coach Gene Hildebrandt, “The better wrestler lost.”
Ahead 22-9, the Saints got wins in the next five matches to put the hosts away.  Carlos Marquez got a decision at 160.
The next three wrestlers, Ryan Westman, freshman Chris Johnson and Devin Wolle got pins for the Saints.
Westman got the fastest pin of the night, and it might be the fastest pin of the year, when he pinned his opponent in 17 seconds.
Coach Hildebrandt said that Westman believes it was the fastest pin of his career.
Adrian Torres got a forfeit at 220, but big brother Victor lost a close match at heavyweight by a score of 3-2.

The Saints wrestlers host conference foe Blue Earth Area on Friday. Wrestling begins at 6 pm. This is the last regular season home match of the year.
As it is the last home match, it will be Senior Parents Night. Two groups of the Saintette Dance Team will be preforming and the pep band will also be performing.
The Saints are currently 3-0 in the SCC, so a win on Friday gives SJA the conference championship.
