“The need is constant. The gratification is instant. Give blood.” You’ve probably seen this slogan from the American Red Cross posted around St. James over the last few weeks, with the build up to the Jan. 31 and Feb 1, blood drive underway.
Members of the community can sign up online at the red cross website or call 1-800-733-2767 to make an appointment. The American Red Cross will be collecting blood at First Lutheran Church from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31 and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friday Feb. 1.
One unit of blood is about 450 ml, or just under a pint and can save up to three lives. There isn’t a person in St. James who hasn’t been affected in some way by the someone who gave blood.
The end of the month blood drive is a good opportunity to pay it forward and give something back to a person in need. Challenge friends, family and yourself to make an appearance at the blood drive and help to save a life.
