  •     St. James High School held a student career fair day on Jan. 23 that ran during the school’s afternoon hours.
Students had the chance to attend presentations on various career fields and occupations. The presentations were for the most part given by local citizens in various professional occupations.
The Guidance Office of St. James High School, the St. James Area Chamber of Commerce and the St. James Area Economic Development Authority put together the program for the benefit of the students.
The goal of the career fair was to help  students understand future job opportunities and the necessary educational preparedness needed to enter into a particular career.
In preparation for the career fair, the students completed a personal assessment tool. The tool was designed to help students learn about their interests, skills and personality.
Six colleges and the U.S. Army had tables in the high school gym as part of the career fair day. Students had the chance to interact with representatives of those institutions to learn about the programs those institutions offer.
Some of the speakers at career day included professionals from areas like agriculture, health science and physical therapy, graphic design, law and public safety, education, information technology,  engineering, accounting, finance and business management.
St. James High School Principal Ted Simon said the program seemed to be a big success.
