Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minn., celebrates the completion of home 102 in a dedication ceremony, Monday Feb. 11, 2013 at 202 South Fifth Street, St. James.
Habitat for Humanity of SCMN is extending an invitation to the greater St. James community to join in celebrating this exciting occasion.
The Shupe family open house takes place 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., with the dedication ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Light refreshments will be provided at the home as Habitat for Humanity of SCMN staff, volunteers, friends and family gather to present the keys to Amy Shupe.
Amy Shupe, the new homeowner, thanks all the people who rallied around her with compassion and commitment while helping her achieve the dream of home ownership.
Shuper completed 200 “Sweat Equity” hours in the construction of her home and the homes of others as a requirement of the Habitat family partnering education program.
“I feel so proud. I installed the floor all by myself with my friend. I can’t wait to move in,” said Shupe.
Donations, in-kind building materials and volunteer labor are the driving force behind Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota’s ability to build homes at an affordable price.
Amy Shupe will purchase the home through a zero percent interest mortgage, in which monthly mortgage payments are used to build more Habitat homes.
“We are very excited to provide another Habitat home for a well-deserving person. We look forward to building many more to come,” said Julie Schmillen.
