The St. James Area gymnastics team competed in the South Central Conference Tournament last Friday night at Martin County West and finished sixth.
New Ulm won the tournament. The team scores were:
New Ulm, 138.575
St. Peter, 125.500
The Saints best event was the vault, where they had a team score of 32.675. On the uneven bars SJA had a team score of 18.975, on the balance beam a team score of 21.150 and on the floor the Saints had a team score of 24.900.
Erin Hurley led the Saints with a score of 31.025 in the all around.
Her best event was the vault where she scored an 8.550. She had an 8.100 in the floor.
Two other Saints scored over eight on the vault. Glenda Hector scored an 8.550 and Jennifer Oviedo scored an 8.200.
Rebecca Steen of MCA won the all around with a score 36.350.
Michaela Otterstatter of New Ulm finished second with a score of 35.500, Madeline Swain of Waseca was third with 34.300, Rebekah Berry of St. Peter was fourth with 34.100, Caleigh Dennis of Waseca was fifth with 33.750 and Cassie Thompson of Blue Earth Area was sixth with 33.625.
Other girls who competed for the Saints in the Tournament were Gabrielle Nett, Elizabeth Asendorf, Kaitly Jence and Rachel Joramo.
The Saints gymnasts next compete in the Section 3A Gymnastics Tournament at Jackson County Central on Saturday, Feb. 16. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 pm.
