  • St. James in buzzing with excitement for the upcoming Chillabration Celebration which will take place Feb. 23 and 24 on Lake St. James and  in Memorial Park.
    A couple of exciting events new to St. James include a kickball tournament, and polar plunge.  The Chillabration will also be bringing back the Ice Fishing Tournament which has been successful in the past. Event costs and donations all support the Chamber of Commerce, local business and local charities.
    The chamber is expecting more that 50 people for the Polar Plunge the Saturday of Chillabration. There is still time to get your team together! If you aren’t interested in participating in the plunge, come out to support your jumpers. The event will be announced by Mark Johnson. The Chamber of Commerce is still on the search for a sound system which can be used for the plunge. Anyone who knows of a sound system which could be used can contact Tabitha at 507-375-3333. Sign-in for the plunge is at 9:30 a.m., Feb 23. The Chamber is also looking for two more fish houses to be used while participants are getting dressed to take the dive.
    So far, possible jumpers include the St. James School Board, Pioneer Bank, First National Bank, Nelson’s Furniture, Mayo staff and the Chamber Lady Team.
    The Ice Fishing contest is coming together with prizes coming in from sponsors and people making plans to participate. The top prize for the fishing contest will be a Vexilar Depth Finder, valued at more than $350. More than $700 of other prizes will be given out at the fishing contest. Prizes will be given for largest fish and door prizes will be handed out during the competition. Registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb 23, with the event kicking off at 12 p.m. The cost for registration is $10 per adult and $5 per child.
    “It will be a great time to get outside and shake off some of that cabin fever,” said Chamber Director Tabitha Johnson.
    Other events taking place include a bean bag toss, snow sculptures, ice skating and much more!
    Food will also be available in Memorial Park. On the menu are brats, soup-to-go, hot dogs, popcorn, nachos, hot cider and hot cocoa. Other food will also be available. The food cart will be tended by the Monster Band members.
    “Come and join in an event we can enjoy for years to come,” said  Johnson. “And, thank you to all of the Chamber sponsors that have worked hard to make this event a reality.”
