In collaboration with the community reads program at the Watonwan County Library, Michael Perry – author of Population: 485 – will be visiting St. James to discuss his novel.
His novel is a memoir about returning to his hometown, New Auburn, Wisconsin. There he joins the volunteer fire and rescue department, and meets his neighbors “at the invitation of the fire siren.”
Perry will be at the library at 11 a.m. on Feb. 23, in St. James. The event is free and open to the public. The event is part of the community reads program at the Watonwan County Library, which is designed to deepen an appreciation and celebrate the joys of reading as well as encourage friends, families, and neighbors to share their experience while reading the same book.
The Library in St. James will also be hosting a meet and eat with first responders Feb. 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the St. James Fire Hall. For only $5, members of the community can enjoy a barbecue dinner and share a table with first responders.
All profits will go toward the purchase of medical equipment.
