In November, the St. James Board of Education heard concerns from a group of football parents.
The Board requested a committee be formed to explore options. This committee had representatives from St. James and Butterfield-Odin Boards of Education and a parent representative from each sport.
This group met on Dec 5th and again on Dec 19th. Information was presented and options discussed. The group was optimistic a merger in football only with the Southwest and South Central Conferences could be a solution.
However, the proposed scheduling partnership of these conferences is not what the group had hoped for so at this point we are back to square one.
The St. James Board of Education has scheduled a community meeting on this topic for Thursday, February 28 at 6:00 pm at the Armstrong Auditorium.
A decision to leave the South Central Conference could impact all sports and the St. James Board of Education feels it is necessary to hear from all groups before considering that as an option.
The community meeting agenda will include the following: an overview of the concern, changes and progress that has been made, timelines and information on conference membership, other conference inquiries and their status, and future options.
There will be a limited open forum time period for people to express their opinions, but a survey completion will also be requested of participants so that the St. James Board of Education can review that data.
We appreciate the community’s interest on this topic and look forward to see you on February 28th.
