Alice Bodin has been a resident of Watonwan County her whole life and is the longest-standing customer for Twyla Grefe at Lord's and Lady's Hairstyling – visiting with the stylist for the last 38 years.
Bodin currently lives in the Brandt Ridge apartments, but has a standing appointment on Monday's for Twyla to do her hair. When asked why she keeps coming back to Twyla, Alice's response was simple: she's a good hair dresser.Alice also likes that she gets a treat from Twyla during their appointments. This week's treat was homemade peanut brittle.
Alice made the trip to Lord and Ladies Hairstyling during her appointment on Monday, Feb. 18, because she was getting her hair colored.
"She told me she was thinking about not getting it colored, but then she said what the heck," said Twyla, laughing with her most loyal client.
In a world filled with a lack of loyalty and commitment, Alice's consistent hair appointments throughout the last 38 years stand out.
Alice has lived most of her life in Butterfield, Minn. She worked at ST Industries in the etching department for 32 years before retiring at age 65. That was 27 years ago. She said she decided to stick around the area because it is home, and her daughter lives just down the road.
It took about two hours to get her hair cut and colored at this special appointment, but Alice and Twyla passed the time reminiscing as old friends.
They talked about the changes that have taken place in St. James and the businesses that have come and gone during their lives here. They will continue their conversation at next weeks appointment, when Twyla visits Brandt Ridge to do Alice's hair. An appointment that has stood for the last 38 years.
