The Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic was recently given a framed poster to recognize our support and participation in the second annual Pink Glove Dance video competition, an annual contest to promote breast cancer awareness. The poster is on display in the hospital lobby and features scenes from the video that was filmed in Madelia last fall.
The Pink Glove Dance competition is sponsored by the medical supplies manufacturing company, Medline Industries, Inc. Medline manufactures pink examination gloves that were designed to get people talking about breast cancer, and are used in the videos.
Madelia community members and the staff at Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic collaborated on the music video with the message “You are not alone.” The video was submitted to Medline’s national Pink Glove Dance competition and community members were encouraged to go online and vote.
“We not only wanted to dance for breast cancer awareness,” said Melissa Hunt, Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic Radiology Director, “We wanted to celebrate the story of the breast cancer survivor, and our music video told that story. Thank you to our survivors and the community members for making our video so powerful and inspiring. It was an amazing show of support!”
There were 270 entries in the 2012 competition. During the three weeks of nationwide voting, Medline’s Pink Glove Dance videos were viewed more than three million times, and received over 200,000 votes. Because of the participant efforts, millions of people throughout the country got a serious message about the importance of early detection and the prevention of breast cancer.
Although the competition is done, the Madelia Community Hospital & Clinic Pink Glove Dance music video can still be found on YouTube. Go to www.youtube.com and type in Pink Glove Dance Madelia to view it.
