Fern Larson, age 90, of St. James, died at her home in Friday, March 8, 2013. Funeral service will be 10:30am, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the St. James United Methodist Church in St. James with Rev. Clinton Firstbrook, III officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. at the Butterfield City Cemetery in Butterfield. Visitation will be Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church one hour before services on Wednesday. You may send the family condolences online at www.sturmfh.com. She was known as "Grandma" to many. Fern worked as a cook for the Butterfield-Odin School District in the 1960's and 1980's. She also worked at the Butterfield Cafe in Butterfield and at Tony Downs Foods in St. James. Fern enjoyed reading, watching television, and making needle art crafts and sharing them with many. She was a fantastic cookie maker and baker which she shared with her family and friends. Her church was very important to her and she was active in the United Methodist Women group, Coffee Serving Group and Fall Bazaar. She enjoyed going on car rides to look at barns and Fall colors as well as going to Voss Park in Butterfield for meals over the campfire and visiting with friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Schewe of Springfield and special friend Ken Przybys; son, Edward Larson of St. James; grandchildren, Jen (Shawn) Harris, Peggy Sievert, Karen (Jody) Onken, Rhoda Johnson, Charles Schewe, Londa (Scott) VanWinkle, Becky (Scott) Larson, Dan Foster and fiancé Jeannette; great-grandchildren, Justin (Brittany) Sievert, Caleb Bedner, Ashley Balster,Kristina Schewe, Kathryn Bedner, Destiny Peterson, Cody Matthews, Adriana Wichman, Alex Schewe, Carter Wichman, Cody (Meg) Brockoff, Travis Brockoff, Bailey Brockoff, Larissa Prafke, Hannah Prafke, Gage
Schewe, great-great-grandchildren; Carson Brockoff, Hunter Brockoff, a brother; Dick (Kelly) Beckmann of Brookfield, Wisc., brother-in-law; John Anderson of Waukarusa, Ind., many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 daughters; Linda Foster and Margaret Larson, an infant grandson, 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
