  • It was a long season for the girls basketball team from the point of view of the won-loss record, as the team finished 4-20.
The three seniors of Devon Flohrs, Aryn Eckstrom and Emily Hurley had solid seasons. Emily almost averaged in double figures for rebounds per game, as she averaged 9.5 RPG.
The future looks promising, as the Saints will return many players who were stats leaders and who also gained valuable playing time this season.
SJA returns their number one and number three scorers next year. Freshman Julia Beckius was the only Saint who averaged in double figures for the year. She averaged 11.4 points per game. Emily Hurley averaged 9.0 PPG and sophomore Brenda Cervantes was third averaging 5.6 PPG.
Freshman Allison Brandts and Sophomore Emily Bottem were among the scoring leaders for the Saints. These two players were also the teams top assists leaders. They were the only players averaging more than one assist per game.
The top three steals leaders are returning next year. Beckius averaged 2.4 SPG, Cervantes averaged 2.1 SPG and Brandts averaged 1.4 SPG.
Rebounds per game is the big hole in the stats for next year. No one comes close to Emily’s 9.5 RPG. Brenda was second on the team with 4.6.
So that’s the big question mark for the team next year. For the most part the most experienced returning players next year are backcourt players.
Underclassmen will be counted on to take over the rebounding and scoring on the Saints frontline. Those players look to be Morgan Sandmeyer, Elizabeth Reckow and Aubrey Eckstrom.
The Saints graduate three seniors and given the current roster, there will be no seniors on the team next year.
On one hand the team will be younger, while at the same time being much more experienced.
