This is why the EDA, in collaboration with SMIF, arranged for Tami Enfield to speak in the St. James Community Center, Feb. 26.
There were about 18 participants for the class, each paying a nominal fee for the three hour seminar.
During their time with Enfield, business owners learned about using Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin to network and gain followers.
Followers are important for any business because they can be used to spread the word about new ideas and products. “Liking” a local business’ page is a simple way for followers to support local business.
One of the most difficult things about social media today is finding your audience. Enfield gave hints and suggestions on how business owners can contact and build relationships with social media users.
In the past, relationships with consumers drove businesses forward, today, much business is done online. In order for local businesses to maintain strong relationships with their consumers, they must understand the importance of social media.
The St. James EDA provides opportunities for small businesses to expand and grow within the community. The EDA collaborated with SMIF to arrange the Enfield seminar.
SMIF is the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation which supports local small businesses and entrepreneurs. They provide early-stage investments traditional loans, micro loans, technical assistance, mentoring and regional leadership opportunities to small businesses in southern Minnesota with more than 450 business being supported and 17,000 hours of technical assistance.
